Live for Speed is a serious racing simulator. No arcade modes, no steering aids – YOU have to do the driving. Try the LFS physics with our free demo!
I’ve been racing in Live For Speed for around 5 months now and figured it was time to advertise!
This is by far the best racing simulator all around. It has a great modest community, amazing wheel & force feedback support, outstanding physics, and will run on basically any computer. When I say “basically any,” I mean it. My current rig running LFS is an AMD Athlon 64 3800+ clocked at 2.4ghz (single core), 1GB ddr-sdram, and an NVIDIA Geforce 210 1gb Graphics Card. But that’s not even it! My laptop (HP Pavilion X2) is an Intel Atom 1.4ghz with 2gb of ram and integrated graphics, and it runs it just as smooth as my PC, even when using a wheel. Amazing right?!
Bored playing by yourself? Join the 10+ 24/7 servers, with multiple game-modes and race with your friends! The DEMO includes 1 track with three configurations, 3 cars (a hatchback, a sedan, and a 4cyl F1 car), and you are able to post on the forums. This is an all-racing game! If you’re on a server, you race, you don’t chat. Chatting is what the forums are for, as well as getting support, listing your team, creating a racing league, and sharing setups/skins.
Speaking of setups, this game also offers a lot of realistic customization. You cannot modify the engine sadly (unless you’re using a tweaker application and playing on a tweaks-allowed server), but you can modify gear ratios, tires (pressure, type, brand), down-force, suspension… You name it! You can make your car better for lap time records, or you can optimize it for endurance racing. You can also find pre-made setups on the forums in their own category.
Now, I only mentioned the DEMO stuff. That’s not even half of it! For a few extra bucks you can get S1, S2, or/and S3, which have lots more content to offer! If you get S1 you’ll get an additional 6 cars and 3 tracks. Included in those cars are some turbocharged cars and a 6 speed shifter-kart. In S2 you’ll get that, plus 11 additional cars and 3 additional tracks. Included in S2 will be more powerful versions of the turbocharged cars with wings and such, 3 F1 vehicles (two of which are V8, one of which is BMW branded), and a concept of the 2006 Valmet Raceabout. S3 is still in production, currently only offering one extra track (but I believe this track is a real-world track).
To sum it up:
- Low spec requirements
- Inexpensive with a lot of content
- VERY realistic physics
- Wonderful community
- Awesome multiplayer support
- FREE non expiring demo with some content
